Kinja'd!!!

this little fox finally got its feet wet this past weekend as I drove it from Lynchburg to Northern va and DC.

It’s developed an issue since its gotten out of the shop for lack of spark. It bucks and backfires occasionally, it comes and goes like a bad cough. No clue what’s causing it. The backfiring I didn’t realize was doing any harm till I pulled the air intake and took a look at my Carbs tan.

Kinja'd!!!

If anyone can provide some suggestions k what’s causing the bucking and backfiring. My clutch is finally starting to go as well. As the craigslist ad said when I bought it. When going uphill the RPM’s would go up but the car wouldn’t move any faster. It would just slip till the ground leveled off.

I sprayed the carb clean with some intake and carb cleaner.

Things to do...

I’m no master mechanic so take this with a massive chunk of salt, but it could be your carb that is causing the backfiring. It could be an issue with your choke (if so equipped), it could be gunked up or it could just be generally worn out and needing a rebuild. The other place I can think of would be the distributor advance not always functioning correctly either because of the vacuum or the mechanical advance. At least those are the things I would check.

Check the advances in the distributor (mechanical should be lubed while you’re at it) and clean up that carb a bit, it may just need rebuilt though to run well
